This guy was in ELO and I am too lazy to type his name as the spelling is a bit complicated...LOL... but listen to the full track here (clip starts at "My Darling Girl") because it's really nice SOUL music methinks:

Here is a live performance of the modern soul track "Heaven Bound" that appears in its studio version on Norwegian rock and jazz artist Pål Thowsen's album Sympathy from 1983. That singer really delivers after the solo part - so I recommend you listen til the end.

Nice one and new to me. Is it the 1981 or 1977 version ? Judging by the picture in the video it's 1981 but not sure

It's 1981. A very good album all the way through, covering a range of styles including some hip jazz but held together by Phil Collins' sympathetic production and drumming along with Alan Thomson virtuoso on bass.
There was another version in 1992 on an album of remakes. I haven't heard that for years but I remember not being impressed when it came out. His live performances were in a different class entirely as he would rearrange many of his songs to make them sound fresh all over again. His 1983 live album Philentropy captured some of this:

Alan White replaced Bill Bruford as drummer of Yes, and in 1975 recorded a solo album that opened with this:

I remember hearing this on an Ashley Beedle compilation about 9 years ago, which had some other great similar stuff on it.
