Back to Ichiban for this 1987 release by the Conway Brothers, following their "Turn it up" smash hit. This is probably the best track from the album, although the Ohio Players medley comes close:

It's been a while since this was dusted down: Roberta Gilliam from 1985

Staying in 1981 for this lesser known version of the James Perry track "April lady" by Wax, off a very strong album produced by Lenny White. This hasn't appeared on a compilation for over 30 years, having been selected on the Rare 2 collection by Dez Parkes:
Your post inspired me, Mickey, so much so that I selected this track for NTL 33 !

Nice one, Thierry! It's a cracking version and it's good to see it getting attention again. The album itself is a nice addition to the collection. I always order these in advance so I already have my copy. The Ritchie Family track comes off an underrated album very far from their eurodisco heyday. That certainly deserves more play. Also good to have the Clarence Carter track!

Nighttime Lovers 34 has just been released, I'm taking more & more the "Rare" route, partly because it's getting increasingly difficult to clear rights for tracks released by the majors (especially Universal)

Many thanks for your efforts, Thierry - much appreciated. It's no surprise that there has been growing interest in this series among the more serious soul collectors since you took this course. Much remains to be dug out and hopefully in years to come we will also get the same sort of care and attention to underground 80s soul that labels like Kent have provided for 60s and 70s.
Sorry to learn once again about difficulties at Universal. We used to discuss this on the old EMS and I remember Donald Cleveland admitting it was a problem. Would be nice to see him back on here, btw.

Must confess that this series had passed me by so far. As a result of reading this thread and doing some research I now own the box sets covering volumes 1 to 30! Really enjoying the sounds - some I know and others that are new to me. So, many thanks to the posters on this thread for opening my eyes and ears to these brilliant comp's.
