I have always loved records from any era, type that had a beautiful beat as a backdrop. I have started here with a few and would hope you lot can top this! So I would challenge you all to top this i'm sure many of you can so why are you waiting?
Firstly Al Green's Lets stay together with the orchestral backing. Love this in the 70's but adore it with the strings
Next come Al Wilson, forget the snake, this is the business
Next come the Spinners, their output with the philly sounds is brilliant and i could probably add several in here but have plumped for tihs old motown one. The flip sweet thing is emmense
I must add before I start looking for others that where perfection is concerned, I have to admit Tears for Fears "Ruling the world" has to be up there. But i will try and stick to soul music
That's the first three, there will be more to follow shortly, but the more who join in the better. I would love to hear things i don't know as well as, like these, the one's everybody knows
Hope you all can top these
Jack

Back already! heard this on a podcast, don't recall who's it was but it has always stuck. Loved be thankful etc, but trying not to go for the obvious like the first three posted.
Had to include this, it is essential (for me one of my all time top five tunes) but not modrn, but who cares. The heartbeat backing and the one string guitar sell it for me. Add in strings, horns and harmonies brilliant. Lord i'm a real sucker for things like this

Well enjoyed those choices thanks. Doesn't matter what era - a soul gem is always welcome to hear. I used to enjoy the late Danny Leakes early productions before he went behind the sound desk for Stevie Wonder - just wish I could dance to this David Rhodes dancer at the Mecca again

I'm a big fan of beat tapes mostly because of Bandcamp, who's E mail list is unforgiving, however as it goes a lot of what they send sounds good to me....For me the track has to have a great loop, a hint of a vocal and be somehow familiar. As if I'm listening to a cassette tape of Richard Searlings show back in the 90t's from the next room and the tape is mangled... Take this one- short, superloop and atmospheric..
