In the mid to late 70s, I was a big fan of Phil Lynott & Thin Lizzy... way before I became a Soul fan (around 1980) I saw them Live in Belgium in 1977 at the Bilzen Festival and it's a memory i'll always cherish... I was wondering how many of you were also fans at the time ?

Always had a soft spot for the gentleman and some of his music. And we're not alone - I can remember hearing "Dancing in the moonlight" on Norman Jay's Original Musiquarium show on Kiss FM sometime around 1991. That particular track shows a musical depth not appreciated by many of the headbangers and people who otherwise ignore him and/or Thin Lizzy. A real tragedy that he died so young. There's a copy of his "Solo in Soho" LP staring at me as I write this. Haven't played it for years but I might give it a spin later. Meanwhile...

I don't have his solo album so I'm all ears... It's true that Thin Lizzy explored other genres (i.e. R&B), there was something definitely funky in some of their tunes

There's no shortage of material featuring Phil Lynott on YouTube, including at least 2 documentaries. Finnish tv recently broadcast this, which is not available on YT but for those interested without question is well worth your time if you get a chance to see it:
It was only after watching this I realised how truly gifted he was as a songwriter. Rock and roll he loved performing but there was a softer and very personal side to a lot of his work that once again I somehow missed at the time. A great talent.
