Ichiban Records had a great run of releases around the turn of the decade. Here's another one of Robbie V's spins, a great remake of the Bobby Womack classic by Trudy Lynn in 1990:

Back to 1990 for this little gem by a later version of the Chi Lites, with thanks to Colin Brown for alerting me to it:

This was a real surprise when it came out in 1992 - from a consistently good album by Colonel Abrams:

Back to 1990 for this regular spin on Robbie V's show and for me the track of the album by Teena Marie:

Does anyone know anything about the album that was promised on the label of this 1991 single by Johnny Bristol?

I didn’t know the Teena Marie track, she was just wonderful, such a unique voice. I was very fond of Since Day One which I think was 1990.
I can’t answer the question re Johnny Bristol but loved Come to me.

There's a potential thread for singles with labels promising albums that never materialised ...
Meanwhile, one album that did materialise got absolutely hammered by Robbie V when it came out - Gary Taylor's "Take control". "Time after time" and "I live for you" were his regular picks, but this one also works for me:

A little more digging reveals that this was released again a year later in the US under a different title again. Some copies on Discogs going for stupid money ...
Good to see you back here, btw

This album was much anticipated in 1991, and wasn't as consistent as his earlier work, but among the standouts was this gem, from Alexander O'Neal:
