Matthew Halsall At Royal Welsh College Of Music And Drama (Cardiff) By Aja & Claire.
We attended this concert at the rather beautiful venue of The Welsh College Of Music And Drama way back in October (Apologies for the delay ill health and all that).
We wont go too deep the first half was to feature the new album “A Ever Changing View” which was released on Mathews own label “Gondwana Records” just click to purchase it ok
It was a packed house which was wonderful as the visitors of high calibre jazz artist that usualy venture across to wales are very few and far between unfortunately.
Well this was our first time seeing Mr Halsall and co live and we was not disapointed ,they moved through the album most beautifuly and we would describe it as a blend of spiritual & afro jazz Mathew leads but did not dominate like a lot of musicians do he left loads of space for the band to express themselves which was wonderful in between playing his main instrument (Trumpet) he is a very good instrumentalist and he loves adding his own electronica to the product.
He is a very chilled dude just loving to just sit down on the floor and soak up the groove, he clearly loves his art and the whole experience of gigging live.
Part two was a mix of his amazing back catologue, which was most enjoyable for us and our fellow punters.
Our general apprasal was it was well worth attending and we recommed Mathew as a concert to attend and at present he is touring europe and we wish him success for his future projects.
Many thanks to Kerstan @ Gondawana for organising everything for us.
